Ancient Rocks
After Jon Robinson
Like ancient rocks lying where they please
I find myself prone amongst chilly grass
Wrapped in a red windbreaker
Bike discarded at my side
The sky an invite to breathe in its expanse
It is here that the day breaks apart
Like ice on frustrated frozen pond
Here in the grounds of Ashton Court
I wish to bury myself amongst the green
An antidote to the city life I chose
Let the earth’s heartbeat wash over me
Bathed in swathes of autumn cold
Watching birds scatter the grey blue sky
I can’t help but remember the hills that raised me
How even now the urge
To shake off this city like dirt
And return to the quiet homelands
Persists
