Eastertide
The day he rose from the dead,
who’d have thought that your head
would crack like an egg on the floor
and all the doctors and nurses
couldn’t put you back together.
So clever, you travelled through time
and woke me to say goodbye.
Now there’s a big village gap between us
when I look from the window helpless
to see if I can catch sight of you
looking back at me, over the chimneys
pushing out smoke from warm fires.
You are cold to touch
in your best red dress, perfect
for a special occasion such as this.
I help you put on your make up
before we meet your old friends
and lovers who carry you in their arms
for one last time.

Very pretty poem, I love the vivid imagery conveyed by the writer.
Really charming and yet oh so sad.
Thank you for sharing Helen
pleasure!

Thank you for this terrific poem which made my skin tingle – something only the best poems manage to do.

I second that. Melinda.
