Home – In Deeside

Every day I walk the windy tunnel
of the high street.

‘Good morning,’ says the odd one,
playing a comb-tune
through tissue paper. I bow.

The estuary is nearby.
A neighbour tells me,
‘Makes for changeable weather.’

Seagulls like this place –
crying until they laugh.
Is it the bin bags
stacked for collection
like cliffs in the alleyway?

Every day I put the key
in the lock, climb the stairs.
This is my home
amongst the chimneypots.

A jackdaw winks.
