Advice on the Death of a Loved One
Suspend belief,
drag yourself to the margins
of everything you think you are,
(or thought you were)
live in the empty spaces between words
and the ringing of the telephone,
hang words on other words –
count them for comfort,
fill your eyes with green,
walk amongst wetness
but let the dry leaves find you,
view life as a prayer and a burden.
wait for the tears to open up
the clenched fist inside your chest,
wait for the quiet,
breathe.
