Sun Bet

I was sure the sun would win, so I put a bet on

9-1

I bet Egypt, Mexico and most of Spain

I bet Lorca, too, for that matter

And you were somewhere in the sky, chasing birds

You heard me scream from the bookies when I lost

Then the land went dark and impenetrable

and the hills kept silent and looked away

They knew, as did the seas, the mountains, the forests

They must’ve had a hot tip, or something
