Bang on Summer

for Candi

Girl, you look like summer to me

Girl, you bang on summer to me

But wait!

I am a smoky town shadow

A lonesome shape

A sad beak pecking the earth

The way you move across the grass

A flower in your hair

Your bare feet drive us wild

Bird, what’s that mean?

Life, what’s that mean?

Love, what’s that mean?

But my mind is muddy

While your hair spills from the sun

Your eyes are cut out from the sky

So girl, go easy angel

The milk is hard angel

You strangle us to make us sing

But I wouldn’t know what to sing

Coz I can’t sing

What I want to know is:

Can you?
