The difference between boys and girls

The girls run ahead;
Leaping gazelles,
Across the road and they’re off,
Looking eighteen but probably thirteen.
The boys drag behind;
Unruly seagulls,
Jostling and jibbing each other,
Looking ten but probably thirteen,
The tallest boy strikes out,
He runs to the girls,
And bravely puts his arms around a blonde one.
She shrugs him off,
And he makes a face.
‘Grow up!’ she scolds,
And then she runs after her cohorts.
Looking eighteen but probably thirteen.
