Two Flappers in Paris

Lawrence scrutinized her bookshelf. He placed his thumb over the spine of each book and sipped his Pinot Noir while the Eagles New kid in Town played on the stereo.

His thumb stopped on a book entitled Two Flappers in Paris. That peaked his curiosity. What sort of a woman placed vintage erotica between Dante’s Inferno and Crime and Punishment?

They ate Carbonara and enjoyed talking with each other about all manner of things. He stayed awhile but began to feel awkward and told her about an early flight to San Francisco.

He walked past her Great Dane that was drinking from a giant bowl of water into her kitchen with the fancy Italian tiles and the cookbooks and the granite countertops.

He walked past her entryway past the Bird of Paradise flowers he couldn’t tell were real or not and that bothered him a little bit but he wasn’t sure why exactly.

Walking quickly to his car he didn’t look back at all but already he regretted not  asking her the name of her dog.
