\nRoads melting in the heat;
\nHalf-naked teenage boys kicking footballs in the street;
\nThe Indian kids playing cricket in the park,
\nGrass darkening their otherwise
\nImmaculate whites.
\n\u201cHey, do you want a game?\u201d they shout.
\nSee, this is what happens when you go out;
\nPeople want a piece of you;
\nPeople want you for their team.<\/p>\n
\nI don\u2019t want grass staining my new clean clothes.
\nI don\u2019t want the captains telling me what to do.
\nI want to stay indoors, conserving my strength,
\nKeeping my own company,
\nAnd my flesh and soul in harmony.
\nI want to sit quietly in the cool,
\nCultivating the whiteness of my skin,
\nListening to old Bowie LPs,
\nAnd reading Proust and Agatha Christie.<\/p>\n
\nAnd need to be winched out to receive
\nLife saving surgery,
\nFor which circumstance,
\nHaving been corrupted by the BBC,
\nI will look for someone to blame,
\nAnd settle on the people outside,
\nWho want me on their team,
\nAnd will not let me be;
\nThe captains who will not let me be me.<\/p>\n
