Life Writing<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n No one will ever know<\/p>\n what happened to the green scarf<\/p>\n you wore, the long winter skirts<\/p>\n <\/p>\n given away in a different city<\/p>\n for someone else to wear.<\/p>\n At the Indian table others<\/p>\n <\/p>\n will be drinking tea, no sense<\/p>\n that you were there. If there<\/p>\n is a ghost, I haven\u2019t seen one<\/p>\n <\/p>\n except sometimes there is a likeness<\/p>\n when someone tall and elegant walks<\/p>\n towards me<\/p>\n <\/p>\n or if I stand close to the chestnut tree<\/p>\n where you are scattered, it seems<\/p>\n you are mapped into the wind.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Diaries not in sequence and gaps of years,<\/p>\n underneath the ink I can still hear you<\/p>\n speak to me.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u2018These things we kept for our records\u2019, they said.<\/p>\n Certificates of competence in History and French,<\/p>\n a family tree tracing a lost connection.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n But I can no longer ask what happened<\/p>\n in-between.
