The Empty Chair<\/span>


Dust gathers in unexpected spaces,<\/span>
in the groove left by the impatient <\/span>
drumming of your fingers,<\/span>
waiting for nothing to happen, again.<\/span>

Dust gathers in the silence of the open door,<\/span>
never to be filled by your presence,<\/span>
the library that stored your experience,<\/span>
and your learning is shut, the key has been thrown away.<\/span>

Shadows threaten the reverie,<\/span>
they highlight the difference between now,<\/span>
and that which will never be,<\/span>
between fiction and fact,<\/span>
and the stages of life,<\/span>
in which you will always be present,<\/span>
but only in bittersweet memories.<\/span>

Your absence,<\/span>
is never more present,<\/span>
than in your empty chair.<\/span>
