Jane has asked that her prize be donated to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shelter.org.uk\/\">Shelter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Whatever shall I do with this time to myself?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There is too much and too little choice all at once<br \/>\nSo I content myself with ferreting the remains<br \/>\nof the laundry basket. So many socks! I have turned<br \/>\nthe rogue ones outside out, mud sprinkling, dried<br \/>\nfrom when you came in wet, hauled the clinging<br \/>\nconcertinas from your feet, leaving them where<br \/>\nthey fell. I smooth the washed ones on radiators,<br \/>\npinch out the heels blocked in with primary colours,<br \/>\nimagine your toes, like chewy gumballs. Then I go<br \/>\nand bake, lining my tins, so when you return<br \/>\nthere will be sweetness for your mouth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0\u00a0&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Voters\u2019 comments included:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>This poem will resonate with everyone who&#8217;s acquainted with the sock goblins.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Wonderfully vivid balance of images and a very original angle, sorting those socks is a seemingly everyday action but the whole poem is full of restrained emotion which makes it even more powerful. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Its simply put but captures something so familiar -such a gentle evocation of motherhood <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>It is sweet and true and the world is full of socks. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I love the precision and tenderness with which she lifts a moment that could hardly be more &#8216;ordinary&#8217; in its objective content.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Jane is an original, quirky, deep and splendid voice in the poetry scene. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>So eloquent about the magic of everyday things.
