\nOf their ancient language
\nChoking on rainfall<\/p>\n
\nScattered across
\nAn unforgiving landscape
\nSplattered with mud
\nOf beast and tractor
\nNo prosperity here
\nFor tenant or labourer<\/p>\n
\nCapped and dressed in tweeds
\nBiting hard on smouldering pipes
\nDream of government grants
\nOr winning prizes
\nAt the Royal Welsh Show<\/p>\n
\nA lifetime of cutting wood
\nTo burn in damp cottages
\nOf turning out for funerals
\nIn the crowded chapel
\nThe grim pat of the shovel
\nOn the soil of their forefathers.<\/p>\n
