{"id":8423,"date":"2015-04-19T08:00:15","date_gmt":"2015-04-19T08:00:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ink.verticalplus.co.uk\/archive\/?p=8423"},"modified":"2015-03-31T12:41:02","modified_gmt":"2015-03-31T12:41:02","slug":"peter-kenny","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inksweatandtears.co.uk\/archive\/peter-kenny\/","title":{"rendered":"Peter Kenny"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hooked<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I stuffed my hook in a ragworm&#8217;s jaws,<br \/>\ncaught a glum goby with a ground line,<br \/>\nhooked peacock rockfish, cats-meat pollack,<br \/>\nspinning with the twins off The White Rock.<br \/>\nWith a sun-thawed, severed sandeel head,<br \/>\nI foul-hooked fighting green-boned garfish<br \/>\non a short-traced float from the lighthouse.<br \/>\nFrom boats I dragged foil, feathers, bare hooks<br \/>\npast ravenous packs of mackerel.<br \/>\nI heard spider crabs skitter on deck,<br \/>\nsaw lobsters lobbed out from lobster pots<br \/>\nwent home to the kitchen scream of crabs.<\/p>\n<p>Now I fish for something I can&#8217;t describe.<br \/>\nI wait for the ormer skies of sundown,<br \/>\nmy fine line curving somewhere out of sight,<br \/>\nits weightless trace baited with silence.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Peter Kenny<\/strong>\u2019s pamphlet <em>The Nightwork<\/em> (2014) was published by Telltale Press.
