behind the garden<\/span>
to the all-night cafe<\/span>
the snow remains:<\/span>
it doesn't mean<\/span>
snow will blanket<\/span>
the sidewalk all the way<\/span>
to the station;<\/span>
it will remain, unseen<\/span>
by the Sunday sleepers.<\/span>

THE KITCHEN<\/span>


You can see into the kitchen, narrow, slightly uphill or warped yellow tiles,<\/span> maybe beige, <\/span>
with dis-colorations from constant shoe soles or humidity, a lucid<\/span> late-night<\/span>
realism bounded by gray-silver freezers, to an inner room full of<\/span> light-reflective<\/span>
utensils, a man wearing a white apron has plunked down two rubber mats,<\/span> another<\/span>
stands in the inner doorway flashing white teeth, now they stand as in a<\/span> ship's<\/span>
corridor, greasy, talking unheard in the only light in which you could read.<\/span>
