Undressing for Death<\/span>

The bathroom shrieks<\/span>
as I take off my skin,<\/span>
peel casing to carcass.<\/span>
Tonight I remove it all.<\/span>

Stepping out is easy,<\/span>
it\u2019s been coming off for days.<\/span>
What a relief. It does not flatter me,<\/span>
I need more colour in my cheeks.<\/span>

Where are my manners?<\/span>
I have not introduced you <\/span>
to my skin. Look at the light<\/span>
through it, at the needle pricks <\/span>

from lashes sticking through<\/span>
the slits of limp eyelids.<\/span>
You can discover me<\/span>
in my hands, a lacework of veins <\/span>

you can unravel.<\/span>
I am woman, I am vellum.<\/span>
My bones might snap<\/span>
at the gap between my lungs<\/span>

and where my breasts should be.<\/span>
I abandon my body to you<\/span>
so you can feel its motion. <\/span>
