Doppelg\u00e4nger<\/span>

She is anywhere before me<\/span>
tying thread on significant twigs<\/span>
                 or following behind<\/span>
leaving trails of white pebbles<\/span>
               like landing lights<\/span>
or paper lanterns marking a garden path<\/span>

I see her slant a flicker at the edge of vision<\/span>
when I\u2019m alone   a hint of shadow in company<\/span>

She scratches at my window when I\u2019m working<\/span>
        grins out from behind the eyes<\/span>
of the woman I pass on the hill who holds a gate<\/span>
and smiles me through<\/span>
       grey hair wiry below her hat<\/span>
          a collie at her heel<\/span>
and in the sharp glance of a crow<\/span>
        rag-tagging down from a tree<\/span>

I hear her mutter as she titivates memory<\/span>
gathers snatches of conversation  watches<\/span>
                         the street<\/span>
