You are the island<br \/>\nof towers and the living air.<\/p>\n<p>There is no break, no edge. I am sky<br \/>\nas I breathe, road when I run.<br \/>\nEver ending, ever starting. Stars in the river<br \/>\nlost and found and found again.<\/p>\n<p>A soul is always lost to darkness,<br \/>\ncall it sacrifice or theft. O City<br \/>\nthat stalks and devours, I have seen my fate<br \/>\nand grasped its hand. I have sat<br \/>\nby the deathly river and tasted night.<br \/>\nI have touched the face<br \/>\nand kissed the lips behind the mask.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Clarissa Aykroyd<\/strong> grew up in Victoria, Canada and now lives in London. Her\u00a0poems have\u00a0appeared in publications including <em>The Missing Slate,\u00a0And Other Poems<\/em> and<em> Shot Glass Journal<\/em>\u00a0and she has been nominated for a 2015 Pushcart Prize.
