Remember your grandmother\u2019s eyes<br \/>\nand fear will pass, they said. But what remains<br \/>\nis a fear that I will never again<br \/>\nbe held so closely. All the hidden things,<br \/>\nthe black telephone, last things \u2013 all return.<br \/>\nLearn history, forget: those red poppies<br \/>\nconjure anger. Memories of your face,<br \/>\nthe knowledge that seven minutes later<br \/>\nI said those words \u2013 they\u2019re all that now remain.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Clarissa Aykroyd<\/strong> grew up in Victoria, Canada and now lives in London. Her\u00a0poems have\u00a0appeared in publications including <em>The Missing Slate,\u00a0And Other Poems<\/em> and<em> Shot Glass Journal\u00a0<\/em>and she has been nominated for a 2015 Pushcart Prize.
