Dancing<\/span>

Nothing has dulled my feel for earth,<\/span>
its stern gravity-pull,<\/span>
its cushion of dark.<\/span>

Neighbours in the flat below<\/span>
hear my feet tapping<\/span>
while the rest of the house sleeps.<\/span>
When I dance in daylight, boards creak:<\/span>
samba, tango, waltz.<\/span>

I have acres and acres to dance through,<\/span>
recharging as I go.  Sometimes I find a partner<\/span>
in a shopping-mall or an uncut field,<\/span>
my party-face sparking till I'm giddy.<\/span>
I whirl through tiredness changing the beat,<\/span>
everything spinning – I'm flying at last.<\/span>

My eyes glisten, past bitterness – <\/span>
I dance in my sleep.<\/span>
Whole streets fly by me,<\/span>
whole streets have started dancing.<\/span>
