Outside my bookshop<\/span>

I have spent the afternoon dreamily reading<\/span>
\u2018Zen And The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance\u2019<\/span>
I am still thinking of Buddhist camshafts<\/span>
When the shoplifter who has done over the children\u2019s section<\/span>
And has several copies of Dr. Zeus under each arm<\/span>
Brandishes a knife at me<\/span>
Except that it\u2019s a Swiss Army penknife<\/span>
And he can\u2019t decide which blade to get out<\/span>
He\u2019s stuck in indecision between the saw<\/span>
Which is almost impossible to get out without removing your fingers<\/span>
And the thing for cleaning horses\u2019 hooves which nobody ever uses<\/span>
And I\u2019m incapable of being frightened<\/span>
Because I\u2019ve started to think<\/span>
Here in the sunshine on the white stone steps<\/span>
Amongst the city glitter<\/span>
And the passing trade<\/span>
About whether if I only ever use one blade<\/span>
There\u2019s any point to all the rest<\/span>
