Raking, in a Pyrenean Garden\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n There is a quiet gap in the constant sheets of rain. the rising smell of roast meat and as we work together to separate dead leaves Who would have thought this young fruit tree<\/p>\n would shed so much?<\/p>\n Enough to clog these tines and soak our clothes, to a pile fit for burning you hand me, sacrificed for a rose\u2019s pruning, to the peat core of seasons beneath us and both our backs bowed with the same labour, the doe-eyed primrose discovered blooming, at our feet <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Suzanne Iuppa<\/strong> is a poet, community worker and filmmaker based in North Wales. \nLet\u2019s go out, first you, then I,
\ninto the small, soaking green and brown back\u2014<\/p>\n
\nwood smoke hypnotises our limbs,
\nsiskins trill within our hearing<\/p>\n
\nfrom waking grasses.<\/p>\n
\nmany baskets of good detritus<\/p>\n
\nalthough I am sad at the thought of it\u2014
\nlike the ancient nest of grass and baling twine<\/p>\n
\nundoing the perfect knot in the convex cup
\nadding another layer<\/p>\n
\nsome perfectly intact with defined edges,
\nsome a murky smear best forgotten<\/p>\n
\nthe same tenderness in our movements
\nspanning whole stepped degrees in scale:<\/p>\n
\nand the obstinate snow and black mountain, above.<\/p>\n
