What’s in a Name?<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n I watched as the car pulled off one last time<\/p>\n the magic trick of making you disappear,<\/p>\n wheels drove the lines from where we waited<\/p>\n counting up under blinking LED numbers<\/p>\n <\/p>\n anxiously red and trying to hold papers<\/p>\n their corresponding corners rolling inward<\/p>\n where fingers had muddled ink smudges<\/p>\n I could see prints layer their traces over.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n When our turn came, the badge said \u2018Mary\u2019<\/p>\n her disinterested gaze, contemptuous and slow<\/p>\n flicking her spittle soaked fingers<\/p>\n she stamped green without another word<\/p>\n <\/p>\n and the next number was called, we moved on<\/p>\n down similar streets where mist blew yesterday<\/p>\n and the day before, but nothing had changed<\/p>\n all that really, yet something lingered<\/p>\n <\/p>\n like stones in the morning<\/p>\n that came to roll away sleeping heads<\/p>\n and leave sockless feet stalling<\/p>\n where every molecule had once lived<\/p>\n <\/p>\n now exhausted, the sill had been untouched<\/p>\n instead I watched branches,<\/p>\n as they sprouted through streaks<\/p>\n my face super imposed on the struggling leaves.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Chris Clark<\/strong> is a Scottish-born poet, currently living in Norwich.\u00a0 He studies at the University of East Anglia, as part of the MA Poetry programme, and has previously featured in publications such as Astronaut<\/em> and Literati Magazine<\/em>.\u00a0 He is currently working on a poetry\/photography collaboration, due out later in 2014.\u00a0 He enjoys mediocre 90s TV and cheese.\u00a0 His website can be found at http:\/\/neveraboutyou.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" What’s in a Name?
