Twice Baked Potatoes<\/span>


I come home and<\/span>
you are making<\/span>
twice-baked potatoes and<\/span>
it smells<\/span>
so homely and<\/span>
so wholesome and<\/span>
you turn round and<\/span>
wipe<\/span>
your hands on your trousers and<\/span>
we have a potato-scented kiss and<\/span>
we pour red wine and<\/span>
I slosh it about a bit and<\/span>
pretend to be like Oz Clarke<\/span>
or something and<\/span>
you are laughing and<\/span>
we sit and<\/span>
eat and<\/span>
agree how annoying it is when<\/span>
Coronation Street isn't on because<\/span>
of the football and<\/span>
then there's cups of tea and<\/span>
biscuits from the Christmas tin<\/span>
we still haven't put away yet and<\/span>
at night when you're sleeping and<\/span>
I'm awake for once and<\/span>
I can hear foxes outside our window<\/span>
shuffling through our rubbish<\/span>
so it makes me think there's someone out there<\/span>
I watch you so close to<\/span>
make sure you are breathing and<\/span>
I touch you on the side because<\/span>
I know you find that comforting and<\/span>
you stir, and<\/span>
I feel safe again and<\/span>
the foxes get bored as we never really<\/span>
throw any food out do we?<\/span>
I drift into sleep<\/span>
while the night freight trains<\/span>
skim past our window<\/span>
with their smooth warning sound that<\/span>
rattles the walls.<\/span>
