Durick"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<strong>The Poem We Would Die For<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are warning signs<br \/>\nwhen one comes on &#8212;<br \/>\na sharp tightening,<br \/>\na thickening, clogging<br \/>\nin your chest &#8212;<br \/>\nlike when a love poet<br \/>\nstruggles with a cliche<br \/>\nthe word &#8220;heart&#8221; pumping ironically<br \/>\nin line-after-line<br \/>\nconsticting the flow<br \/>\nwith &#8220;&#8230;break&#8221; or &#8220;with all my&#8230;&#8221;<br \/>\nas if we didn&#8217;t know,<\/p>\n<p>and there&#8217;s crippling pain<br \/>\ncoursing through your arms,<br \/>\nyour writing hand gets numb<br \/>\nsweats heavily of &#8220;soul&#8221; and<br \/>\nthe urge to make up metaphors<br \/>\nfor it, stressful comparisons<br \/>\nwhere the vehicle can slip<br \/>\ntoo easily off its jack<br \/>\nand clump down on to your foot<br \/>\nso hard you&#8217;ll limp a line or two<\/p>\n<p>till the angel of death<br \/>\nholds his breath<br \/>\nwaiting for a closing couplet<br \/>\nso supple it<br \/>\nwill follow us to our grave<br \/>\nand make it all seem worth it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>J.
