<\/span>Later though you removed it, <br \/>you<br \/>\nthought Arnhem a better fit, there wasn\u2019t enough bite <br \/>in Holland, for you<br \/>\nwanted something harder, with <br \/>something harsh at the end; what it means less it<br \/>\n<br \/>important than the sound it makes, geography not <br \/>relevant either.<span style=\"\">&nbsp; <\/span>Holland.<span style=\"\">&nbsp; <\/span><i style=\"\">Do you like it?<\/i><span style=\"\">&nbsp; <\/span>A word you\u2019ve <br \/>not used before but which<br \/>\nyou like, a lot.<span style=\"\">&nbsp; <\/span>A rich hollow<br \/>\n<br \/>sound with the hard clump at the end like the stomp of <br \/>thick boots, or a full<br \/>\nstop.<span style=\"\">&nbsp; <\/span>The whole word, in the round<br \/>\n<br \/>(if you follow me!), Holland; it sounds like a ship\u2019s hull <br \/>hitting the<br \/>\nquay.<span style=\"\">&nbsp; <\/span>And always with a Dutch<br \/>\naccent: you <br \/>wobble your head and set your throat back, for sure. Like <br \/>the sea,<br \/>\nperhaps, one big gulp and it\u2019s gone.<span style=\"\">&nbsp;<br \/>\n<\/span>Holland<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">* Paul Smith<\/span> says&#8230; Who am I ?&nbsp; A professional amateur.&nbsp; It\u2019s a battle and one day I will win (and lose, of course).
