all the lost pieces of her life<\/span>
line the alleyway in Bercy:<\/span>
a slot machine rocking horse, barrels of beer<\/span>
square planters with shrubs<\/span>

she shakes her head. this isn\u2019t right.<\/span>
above her, unholy clouds threaten<\/span>
to let loose their wares.<\/span>
a river of urine trickles past her feet and she turns<\/span>
to see a man<\/span>
oblivious<\/span>

he walks away<\/span>
leaving footprints<\/span>

she wrinkles her nose, and follows him <\/span>
under the arch <\/span>
of a spray-painted loving cow<\/span>
and a toad<\/span>

a splot of paint on the pavement<\/span>
makes an insect, wearing a bishop\u2019s mitre<\/span>
riding a rocking horse<\/span>
without paying a penny<\/span>
is this fair? no.<\/span>

she re-treads her steps<\/span>
down the Bercy alleyway<\/span>
stopping beneath a poster <\/span>
of naked people embracing each other<\/span>
in the rain, in the pouring rain.<\/span>
