We mentioned the launch for Martin Figura's new collection Whistle in the previous posting \u2013 now here's another poem from that collection…<\/span><\/p>\n

Distance<\/span>


Suddenly June catches her breath,<\/span>
wakes reeling from the vertiginous <\/span>
blurred curvature of the earth,<\/span>
its unappeasable distance<\/span>
where she hangs, voiceless.<\/span>

Below, lines of silver<\/span>
slowly pull into focus,<\/span>
she sees three rivers.<\/span>

These rivers are survivors<\/span>
coursing through canyons<\/span>
of beasts and wild flowers,<\/span>
like blood through veins.<\/span>

They carry her with them.<\/span>
This isn\u2019t a dream.<\/span>



<\/font>* Martin Figura<\/span> left school at 15 to
\njoin the Army. He left in 1997 after 25 years to become a photographer.
\nHis first poetry collection The Little Book of Harm<\/span> (Firewater
\nPress) was published in 2000 and reprinted in 2001,2002 & 2003. Ahem<\/span> (Eggbox) his second collection
\nwas published in 2005. He begins a touring show of Whistle<\/span>,
\n produced by Apples and Snakes, at the Ledbury Poetry Festival in July.<\/span><\/font>
