Glimpses<\/strong><\/p>\n The buffet, Paddington Station, 1992<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n I find, behind a grubby mustard pot,<\/p>\n a large and opened envelope, sent out<\/p>\n and franked in purple, Hornsea School of Art,<\/p>\n tenth of September 1972,<\/p>\n to Hannah Leighton-Jones, B.A.<\/p>\n Inside, two photos, which were placed there .. when?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n One, black and white, a paddock.<\/p>\n Two grey, well-suited people, closely-woven,<\/p>\n a he and she. A Father and Mother look to them.<\/p>\n The lad? Their son? Spit of the father, certainly.<\/p>\n Aquiline. And she, shy girl (a girl friend? Hannah?)<\/p>\n Her hand is being held, but she, surely<\/p>\n and perceptibly, is leaning away from him.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The second shot, a boozer, God knows where.<\/p>\n Full colour, catching background reds and blues,<\/p>\n a boxing poster, Cooper \u2013 Bugner fight.<\/p>\n A crowd of kids, their gear a blaze of punk,<\/p>\n and Hannah (same girl anyway) is there,<\/p>\n wrapped to the arm and chest of that bright boy,<\/p>\n his hair spiked high and she hilarious.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n **<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I thought maybe I\u2019d post the photos back,<\/p>\n but left it in the end.<\/p>\n She could be anywhere by now.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Robert Nisbet<\/strong> was for several years an associate lecturer in creative writing at Trinity College, Carmarthen, where he also worked for a while as an adjunct professor for the Central College of Iowa.
