Slim legged<\/p>\n<p>and shyly bowed head, you graze \u2013<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>not the woman sleek in black<\/p>\n<p>who teeters through your working day<\/p>\n<p>but a deer with fawn speckled flanks<\/p>\n<p>and trim feet, ballerina light, across<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>the silvered lawn. Stars<\/p>\n<p>scatter like cigarette sparks<\/p>\n<p>and you breathe the night air, raising<\/p>\n<p>your flared nose to the sky<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>until a shadow wakes from the twisted<\/p>\n<p>boughs of trees,\u00a0 pours his breath<\/p>\n<p>and shakes his mane, unflinching light,<\/p>\n<p>between the walls, across the lawn,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>leaving prints which mimic the shape<\/p>\n<p>of flowers as he bounds towards you \u2013<\/p>\n<p>just catching your shoulder<\/p>\n<p>with a fine pencil line of red.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>RCJ Allan<\/strong> writes poetry in the spaces she finds between teaching and other entanglements.
