Electric Baton<\/span>

In the pause beneath <\/span>
a bare light bulb which has been <\/span>
sun and moon for weeks <\/span>
(with rice cooking not a mile away <\/span>
children coming in from school)<\/span>
the soldier\u2019s eyes slide <\/span>
from the electric baton <\/span>
to your wet body<\/span>
 <\/span>
what he will do<\/span>
will be done attentively                      <\/span>
it will require imagination  <\/span>
a kind of empathy <\/span>
some feeling for its meaning to you <\/span>
 <\/span>
The discharges will jump a gap <\/span>
too difficult to look at <\/span>
weld for unbearable seconds <\/span>
two pains together<\/span>


Bones III<\/span>

The doctor\u2019s pen<\/span>
traces the length<\/span>
of her back-lit bones<\/span>
on the light box<\/span>
circles the fracture <\/span>
with care<\/span>
                the break<\/span>
an opened gate      <\/span>
