A sleep-trapped world could twist itself<\/strong><\/p>\n

to other worlds we\u2019d never want to meet;
\nto worlds we\u2019d run from if we met them;<\/p>\n

worlds in which we\u2019d look at water
\nfretted into gooseflesh by fine rain
\nand ask what caused and prowls
\nthat smooth patch tight as skin on blistered burns;<\/p>\n

worlds in which we\u2019d learn what ate
\nthe hearts of fallen trees and rolled them
\nto the water\u2019s edge as floating husks
\nwhere brown foam slumped in feeble swell
\nlike something furred and dead.<\/p>\n
