Woman Cursing the Moon<\/strong><\/p>\n (After Miroslav Holub: Man Cursing the Sea)<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Someone<\/p>\n just climbed to the top of the hill<\/p>\n and started cursing the moon:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n stupid moon, stupid fat-faced moon,<\/em><\/p>\n fatuous copy of a pregnant belly;<\/em><\/p>\n beachcomber mauling the tideline;<\/em><\/p>\n creeping ghost of a snail<\/em><\/p>\n obscuring the stars with its slimy trail<\/em>;<\/p>\n anorexic cheese,<\/em><\/p>\n starving itself almost to death;<\/em><\/p>\n <\/em>\u00a0satellitic sychophant,<\/em><\/p>\n trying so hard to be pale and interesting;<\/em><\/p>\n trailing around after the sun, sucking in its stomach;<\/em><\/p>\n fiddling with the sea, interrogating caves<\/em><\/p>\n month after month;<\/em><\/p>\n insomniac, playing with itself;<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n moon, you barren dusty rock of a womb –<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n So for a while she cursed the moon,<\/p>\n which stroked her head<\/p>\n like an anxious mother.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Then she came down and threw<\/p>\n nettles, oat straw, \u00a0skullcap, hips<\/p>\n into the moony pond.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n There you are, moon<\/em>, she said<\/p>\n and went on her way.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Dee Rivaz<\/strong> is a Community Artist in North Wales working from the premise that ‘there is nothing new under the sun’.
