Chino and Chambray<\/span>

 <\/span>
Forty years older than I,<\/span>
Charles, in his tweed cap, stands starched<\/span>
in gray chino and blue chambray.<\/span>
 <\/span>
For more than a year his broad tie<\/span>
has let the same iridescent duck<\/span>
fly against a vermillion sky.<\/span>
 <\/span>
Like a Vatican Guard<\/span>
he oversees the parking lot<\/span>
I cut through each morning<\/span>
 <\/span>
far corner to far corner<\/span>
as I cleave two triangles of cars<\/span>
parked in my wake.<\/span>
 <\/span>
I ask him one morning,<\/span>
\u201cCharles, do you mind<\/span>
when I cut through your lot?\u201d<\/span>
 <\/span>
\u201cNot at all, sir,\u201d says Charles<\/span>
as he stares straight ahead<\/span>
and starts the windmill<\/span>
 <\/span>
of his good arm to lead<\/span>
the pearl Hummer<\/span>
now pulling in.<\/span>
