{"id":6452,"date":"2014-03-07T09:00:58","date_gmt":"2014-03-07T09:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ink.verticalplus.co.uk\/archive\/?p=6452"},"modified":"2014-02-27T11:41:41","modified_gmt":"2014-02-27T11:41:41","slug":"james-coghill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inksweatandtears.co.uk\/archive\/james-coghill\/","title":{"rendered":"James Coghill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<strong>Coffee-Carp<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>How did they<br \/>\nmanage<\/p>\n<p>to make this coffee<br \/>\ntaste of fish?<\/p>\n<p>I complained<br \/>\nin the uniquely<\/p>\n<p>english way<br \/>\nthat makes it sound<\/p>\n<p>as if it\u2019s<br \/>\nall my fault<\/p>\n<p>but they<br \/>\nunderstood<\/p>\n<p>and asked if<br \/>\nI could<\/p>\n<p>keep a secret before<br \/>\ntaking me round<\/p>\n<p>back to a<br \/>\nswimming pool<\/p>\n<p>of liquid in such<br \/>\nbrown quantities<\/p>\n<p>that I almost<br \/>\nthrew up. One<\/p>\n<p>of them<br \/>\npatted me<\/p>\n<p>on the back<br \/>\nthen reached<\/p>\n<p>with their<br \/>\nother hand<\/p>\n<p>into the pool<br \/>\nand appeared<\/p>\n<p>to tickle something,<br \/>\na something<\/p>\n<p>that became<br \/>\na fish-shaped ripple,<\/p>\n<p>the ripple,<br \/>\na fish, six<\/p>\n<p>metres long<br \/>\ntwo metres wide:<\/p>\n<p>the largest and<br \/>\nmost awake<\/p>\n<p>looking carp<br \/>\nI\u2019d ever seen,<\/p>\n<p>glossy with<br \/>\ncaffeine sweats,<\/p>\n<p>its saucer eyes<br \/>\nstaring into the state<\/p>\n<p>of being that lies<br \/>\nbeyond the manic.<\/p>\n<p>I tutted gently<br \/>\nand realised<\/p>\n<p>that it<br \/>\nwould take<\/p>\n<p>the whole<br \/>\nnext month<\/p>\n<p>for me to decide<br \/>\nhow I felt about this.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>James Coghill<\/strong> has had poems published in <em>The Cadaverine<\/em> and <em>Popshot Magazine<\/em>.
