Collision<\/span>

They lift me out from the wreckage, slowly <\/span>
floating in and out  of the leavening.<\/span>

I sit with my back to the wall, sun <\/span>
just beginning to warm. <\/span>

Somewhere behind me, the sea slips<\/span>
fearless into zero hour: <\/span>

a long glass <\/span>
emptied and rinsed of its dregs. <\/span>

Not a sound, just the <\/span>
tuk tuk tuk<\/span> of metal relaxing. <\/span>

The car is slewed to one side, Sweeney-style, <\/span>
weeping glass into the front of a coach. <\/span>

All night, this slow erosion of self \u2013 <\/span>
no sleep, in a now-vacant house, pushing up <\/span>

from bare floorboards,<\/span>
my spliff stubbed out in a swept grate. <\/span>

All night, this wish to be tossed out to sea, <\/span>
voiceless, clean as a bone.<\/span>
