I wanted to reassemble you,<br \/>\nnot as you were, the textbook <em>remembered best,<br \/>\n<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0but mind-haul <em>you-in-pain<\/em> across every yard<br \/>\nof pavement, invoke us washed by drizzle,<br \/>\nswallowing the petroleum tonic of fog,<\/p>\n<p>hearing the drum pulse of a helicopter<br \/>\nsomewhere at the city&#8217;s edges,<br \/>\nname each street, feel the frontal lash<br \/>\nof wind on a north corner, bring<br \/>\nyour ghost to stand, twist-locked,<br \/>\nat my shoulder in the kitchen and I could say<br \/>\nthat you were here and this was death.<\/p>\n<p>For several days I breathed on empty,<br \/>\nkept you close, spelled out your traces,<br \/>\nthe constellated stains of tea across an atlas<br \/>\nyou&#8217;d opened for my kids to show the yellow<br \/>\nof equators, until my heart settled,<br \/>\nfound its level in the wideness filling<br \/>\neach page, the receding oceans, deserts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Rosalind Hudis<\/strong> is an award winning\u00a0Wales based poet.
