Hot<\/span>

Small suns, they bring the light<\/span>
of Seville into my kitchen.<\/span>

Cut and slice them into molten<\/span>
pieces, douse the glow, infusion.<\/span>
 <\/span>
Stir them into mermelada<\/span>
a pan of orange volcano<\/span>

sweet and tart as a moorish kiss.<\/span>
In the dark days of the year\u2019s<\/span>

turn, I cook the colour of hot.<\/span>

Red<\/span>

as her eyes in the mirror<\/span>
as blood dark as the afghan carpet<\/span>
opium poppies, sleep and forgetting<\/span>
the scarlet soles of her sandals<\/span>
the light that shows something isn\u2019t working<\/span>
the glass she lifts at the end of the day<\/span>
the sky that says, it\u2019s going to get better<\/span>
