plates of biscuits, iced<\/p>\n
with pointed remarks<\/p>\n

No one asked you to<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I open a door in my chest<\/p>\n
coax out the jackdaw, who sleeps<\/p>\n
in my left ventricle<\/p>\n
hops onto my palm and coughs<\/p>\n
up the shiny, quivering<\/p>\n
with each new breath<\/p>\n
Damp and sticky with blood<\/p>\n
like a newborn<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
You stamp on every one of them<\/p>\n
\u201cCan\u2019t have dreams around here<\/p>\n
Can\u2019t feel anything<\/p>\n
you\u2019ll enjoy it too much\u201d<\/p>\n
Stood behind me you utter diamonds<\/p>\n
set in tombstones, unmovable<\/p>\n
in your perfection<\/p>\n
Each word embedded like barbs<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
My mind buzzing, resurrecting<\/p>\n
memories like persistent, fat<\/p>\n
bluebottles, spiralling<\/p>\n
as I bat them away<\/p>\n
scared to squash them entirely<\/p>\n
in fear of the mess they might make<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Biting my tongue leaves it bloody<\/p>\n
and shredded, no birds to sing my truth<\/p>\n
the nest bare, dead and leaden<\/p>\n

another chance to proffer advice<\/p>\n
I crumble away your offerings<\/p>\n
having barely touched my eyes<\/p>\n
