When I sold the poems<\/span>
the Indians gave me wampum.<\/span>
\u2018Hang on a tick,\u2019 I said,<\/span>
\u2018that doesn\u2019t go down a bundle<\/span>
in Tesco\u2019s.<\/span>
 <\/span>
I\u2019d rather other currency.<\/span>
If money is out<\/span>
what about<\/span>
a night or three<\/span>
in your tepee?<\/span>
 <\/span>
Hours of exotic redskin sex<\/span>
followed by post-coital<\/span>
pipes of peace<\/span>
round the fire.<\/span>
How\u2019s about it?\u2019<\/span>
 <\/span>
The reply came carved on a dead<\/span>
sequoia in hieroglyphs:<\/span>
deer, feathers,<\/span>
eagles, horses,<\/span>
flying axes.<\/span>
 <\/span>
I didn\u2019t understand a thing.<\/span>
