There<\/p>\n<p>is a name for it \u2013 they<\/p>\n<p>call it <em>ambiguous loss<\/em>. Words<\/p>\n<p>that carry the weight of years<\/p>\n<p>of observation, trials and texts,<\/p>\n<p>a term for missing the one you love,<\/p>\n<p>even while they are with you,<\/p>\n<p>when the future is bruised<\/p>\n<p>by illness and what\u2019s now is far<\/p>\n<p>away from what might have been.<\/p>\n<p><em>Ambiguous loss<\/em>. But I would<\/p>\n<p>prefer to say that I am haunted<\/p>\n<p>by the ghost of your motion,<\/p>\n<p>the flow of you, as you walked<\/p>\n<p>through our kitchen on any afternoon,<\/p>\n<p>or how, pushing your hair back<\/p>\n<p>you leant across me,<\/p>\n<p>the world lit in your eyes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alex Reed<\/strong> is a family therapist and is interested in Zen Buddhism and poetry.
