After John Donne<\/span>

Thy firmnes draws my circle just<\/span>
And makes me end, where I begunne.<\/span>

History turns and these points also turn<\/span>
one to the other measuring the distance<\/span>
of the pearl fixing the mute chant <\/span>
of constancy.<\/span>

And if, behind the shapes so drawn, <\/span>
squares, meadows and rivers chase each other<\/span>
in the evening, in the dewy morning <\/span>
or when the lights come on;<\/span>

and if the world, the moons and the comets<\/span>
follow point to point the round circle<\/span>
and seek each other slowly, eternally <\/span>
in the cold mirror,<\/span>

at my beginning my end fixes <\/span>
your firmness, inside the exact circle.<\/span>
