\non a barricade of pillows, reading
\npoems. It\u2019s a solo siege.<\/p>\n
\nto drift unconscious is to cease.
\nTo close the eyes, to not exist.<\/p>\n
\ngeography of loneliness.
\nIt\u2019s true enough across the earth.<\/p>\n
\nI mutter to the rhythm of a dead man\u2019s
\nbreath\u2014someone alive here whispers<\/p>\n
\nI\u2019ll pick up my notebook and pen
\nfrom the floor by the bed where they fell<\/p>\n
\ndespite the lamp\u2014I\u2019ll write
\nsome thoughtless lines. All I\u2019ve got<\/p>\n
\nhow its zenith heat\u2019s forgotten
\nand the woman who slept here is gone<\/p>\n
\nShe\u2019d hold her hands to a candle
\nin a restaurant. It\u2019s closer to dawn.<\/p>\n
