Something to Keep<\/span>


We\u2019re at the glassblowers and my mother<\/span>
– a repeat customer \u2013 is trying<\/span>
to find the perfect gift.<\/span>

Oceans, gardens, boiled confectionary <\/span>
suggest themselves.  There are bowls<\/span>
and baubles, vases, abstract<\/span>

swans and snails and everything holds light<\/span>
in its own way.  She bends and squints<\/span>
and sometimes takes<\/span>

the brightest pieces to the window, lifts them<\/span>
up like a sommelier.  No wrong bubble<\/span>
goes unnoticed<\/span>

and her turquoise coat is a crucial part of this.<\/span>
I want to buy them all.  Every last glass<\/span>
she\u2019s touched.<\/span>
