An afternoon with the Fates <\/p>\n After they cut the thread,<\/p>\n I just lay there;<\/p>\n each small spine-bone supine,<\/p>\n searching the hard floor beneath me.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n There are no maps for moments like this.<\/p>\n If only my bag could open its puckered mouth<\/p>\n and give up an oyster secret.<\/p>\n My heart holds on to a feather that can defy gravity.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n My bones partner unwilling hardness.<\/p>\n Split feet introduce the curve of my belly.<\/p>\n I cannot even begin to imagine where my head is.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Words by Helen Pletts <\/strong>whose two collections, Bottle bank and For the chiding dove, are both published by YWO\/Legend Press (supported by The Arts Council) and available on Amazon. \u2018Bottle bank\u2019 was longlisted for The Bridport Poetry Prize 2006, under Helen\u2019s maiden name of Bannister.
