in them, everything is heavy \u2026 cars,<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\">telephones, and radios.&nbsp; in them, men take unexpected<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\">taxi rides, light streaked across their faces so we can <\/span><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\">know their full intent. &nbsp;<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\">before they ever leave, they tell their women they ve <\/span><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\">gotten themselves in a jam, or they must collect the <\/span><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\">dough, and they ll be back shortly. &nbsp;<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\">often, they re shot at the base of stairs, at entrances to <\/span><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\">buildings that were meant to save them.<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\">when their women hear the knock on the door, a <\/span><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\">violin plays.&nbsp; the women pause, sequins on their <\/span><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\">clothes sparkling like millions of eyes. &nbsp;<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\">the women open the door and say \u2026 <\/span><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\">come in, i ve been waiting for you. &nbsp;<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\">&nbsp;<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">*<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/theresawilliams.yolasite.com\/theresas-blog.php\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Theresa Williams<\/span>&#39;<\/a> work has appeared or will appear soon in many magazines, including <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Chattahoochee Review<\/span>, <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Hunger Mountain, Midwestern Gothic, Danse Macabre<\/span>, and <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">The Sun<\/span>. &nbsp;Her novel, <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">The Secret of Hurricanes<\/span> was a finalist for the Paterson Fiction Prize. &nbsp;She has a husband, dogs, and cats, and stays up late at night, writing.<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\">Theresa says: &#8220;millions of eyes, henning&#8221; is part vii of series of epistolary prose poems called &#8220;the eternal network&#8221; (which is what the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mail-art.de\/\">mailart<\/a> community calls itself). &nbsp;&nbsp; The poem was sent through the mail to a man in Germany, a complete stranger I met on a mailart site, called Henning and was accompanied by mailart. <\/span><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><\/font><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>vii.&nbsp;
