A tail<br \/>\ncoiled around the chair leg, became a rope.<\/p>\n<p>Ladies cried sacrilege when Burton<br \/>\ndetermined to learn every language of ape and man.<br \/>\nSimian dictionaries burned<br \/>\nand Babel crumbled, phoneme by phoneme.<\/p>\n<p>The Rhesus boys fought with bared teeth.<br \/>\nSatsumas tumbled, I stared<br \/>\nto a horizon lined with eucalyptus<br \/>\nand watched syllables fall.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Beth Grimm<\/strong> grew up in South Yorkshire but has spent much of her adult life flitting around Central and Eastern Europe.
