She writes poetry, runs poetry workshops for children and dementia sufferers and is studying for an MA in Creative Writing at Keele University. She is also Emergency Poet in her 1960&#8217;s ambulance.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Xmas Present<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The present, tense with pressures,<br \/>\npresents itself in gifts mapped<br \/>\nout as these: a sop to fashion,<br \/>\npresent pop, tradition wrapped<br \/>\nin sentiment. \u00a0And I must choose<br \/>\nthe necessary, the trivial, the apt.<br \/>\nBowed down by bleak present-<br \/>\niment, browned off and strapped<br \/>\nfor cash, I&#8217;m feeling hassled,<br \/>\npressured, feeling <em>present-tense<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Brian Johnstone<\/strong>\u2019s latest collection is <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/dp\/1904614752\/ref=nosim?tag=inswte0f-21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Book of Belongings <\/a><\/em>(Arc, 2009). His poetry has appeared throughout Britain, in America and Europe. His poems have been translated into over 10 different languages.
