{"id":3526,"date":"2012-11-12T12:00:16","date_gmt":"2012-11-12T12:00:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ink.verticalplus.co.uk\/archive\/?p=3526"},"modified":"2012-11-06T13:23:49","modified_gmt":"2012-11-06T13:23:49","slug":"roddy-williams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inksweatandtears.co.uk\/archive\/roddy-williams\/","title":{"rendered":"Roddy Williams"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Changeling, The<\/p>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s my indifference<br \/>\nThat shows the difference.<br \/>\nDuty Officers have to chain me to my train seat.<br \/>\nI&#8217;m reluctant to be bound<br \/>\nfor home.<\/p>\n<p>They worry me back through time<br \/>\nand space to the land of slate skies,<br \/>\nand the sad child<br \/>\nleft by the fair folk<br \/>\nin exchange for the real son.<\/p>\n<p>I land awkwardly and conceal my wings<br \/>\nout of respect.<br \/>\nThey are visible but not mentioned.<\/p>\n<p>My mother gives me cake,<br \/>\nlove and something in the tea<br \/>\nthat makes me feel shame.<\/p>\n<p>I look out to the manmade hills<br \/>\nof waste, imagine a glimpse of<br \/>\nmy people flashing faster than flesh<br \/>\nthrough twisted trunks.<\/p>\n<p>I see no human boy trailing their<br \/>\nglinting dust.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe he had to move away as well.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Roddy Williams<\/strong> is originally from North Wales and now lives and works in London.
