You can buy<\/p>\n<p>a machine to blow bubbles now;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>the kids all walk straight past it,<\/p>\n<p>bored. But the whole world<\/p>\n<p>was reflected in that bubble, the whole<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>wobbling, fragile world. Polish.<\/p>\n<p>My dad was a polisher. Saturdays<\/p>\n<p>were Cardinal days. He\u2019d get a blob<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>of pink wax out of the tin and rub it in.<\/p>\n<p>Even at the end, the ingrained skill<\/p>\n<p>was there. You\u2019d have thought<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>they were just sharing the chores<\/p>\n<p>but she\u2019d given him that to do because<\/p>\n<p>he was one of those ducks<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>that follows you for life.<\/p>\n<p>Now she\u2019s older than he ever knew<\/p>\n<p>and someone else is paid to do the cleaning.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve got no duster<\/p>\n<p>but I\u2019m going to buff this silver day<\/p>\n<p>till I can see my face in it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Carole Bromley<\/strong> teaches Creative Writing at York University and writes a poetry blog for the local What&#8217;s On guide\u00a0 &lt;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.yorkmix.com\">http:\/\/www.yorkmix.com<\/a><\/span>&gt; \u00a0Her first full-length collection, <em>A Guided Tour of the Ice House, <\/em>was published by Smith\/Doorstop in 2011.\u00a0 \u2018Reading James Schuyler\u2019 appears in <em>A Guided Tour of the Ice House.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Encounter with Baba Yaga<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Having learned to ignore false names<\/p>\n<p>and go between maps<\/p>\n<p>I found a path under the forest<\/p>\n<p>taking care<\/p>\n<p>to arrive at the proper hour.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A choice of three doors.<\/p>\n<p>Right.
